Our main runway is approximately 40 years old and has reached the point where repairs are necessary to maintain safe and reliable flight operations. Broken and uneven concrete in the center of the runway has developed into a noticeable hump, creating a safety concern for aircraft during takeoff and landing.
Before proposing these repairs, the club obtained several estimates for full runway replacement (concrete and asphalt). All estimates were beyond the club’s financial reach. After evaluating options, targeted repairs were determined to be the most practical and cost-effective way to improve safety and extend the runway’s life.
Cost and contractor support
The repair estimate is $6,500. This reduced cost is largely possible thanks to Wayne Kraemer, who arranged for a local concrete contractor to donate heavy equipment and labor.
Fundraising goal
We are requesting member donations to complete these essential repairs. Our fundraising goal is $6,500. Donations are separate from regular club dues. Any amount helps; a recommended donation is $110 (example: $6,500 ÷ 60 members ≈ $110 per member). The fundraiser will run for two months.
Planned repairs (included in the $6,500)
- Repair a 35 ft × 35 ft section in the center of the runway
- Repair a 5 ft × 35 ft section and a 30 ft × 12.5 ft section on the south end of the runway
- Use additional concrete to extend the pilot walkway fully to the runway
- Clean up and repair minor cracks using concrete joint repair material
- Add dirt around the runway perimeter to allow a smooth transition from concrete to grass
- Additional improvements if funds exceed the goal
Any donations above $6,500 will be applied toward:
- Repair of a 40 ft × 5 ft section along the side of the runway (outlined in blue)
- Construction of a third taxiway (outlined in yellow)

Field and lease note
The field name will change from Kelly RC Field to Churchill Airfield. The field is currently on a year-to-year lease; property owners have assured Mr. Bob the club is secure at this location for many years.
Thank you for supporting the club and the flying field. These repairs will help ensure a safer, smoother, and more enjoyable flying environment for everyone.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bob & Anthony
